Mequon’s Certified Pediatric Speech & Articulation Therapy
Expert Correction for Lisps, ‘R’ Sounds, and Speech Delays Led by Milwaukee’s Only Certified Orofacial Myologist

Why "Just Practicing" Isn't Fixing the Sound
Does your child struggle to be understood by grandparents or teachers? Do you find yourself constantly "translating" for them?
Many parents in the Mequon area come to us frustrated. Their child may have been in speech therapy for years with little progress, or perhaps they were told they "don't qualify" for school services because their grades are fine.
Here is the missing link: Speech is a motor skill. It requires precise coordination of the tongue, lips, and jaw. If the underlying muscles are weak or the tongue is restricted (by a Tongue Tie or Myofunctional Disorder), no amount of "practicing the sound" will fix it.
At Mequon Speech & Learning Connection, we don't just ask the child to listen and repeat. We analyze how the mouth is moving and fix the physiological roadblocks preventing clear speech.
The Difference Between School Therapy & Medical Therapy
Many parents assume school therapy covers everything. While school SLPs are wonderful, they are bound by "educational impact" and group settings. We are bound by medical necessity and functional results.
Correcting the Most Stubborn Speech Errors
Because we are led by a Certified Orofacial Myologist, we specialize in the "hard-to-fix" sounds that often persist despite years of traditional therapy.
1. The Interdental Lisp ("Th" for "S")
Does your child say "Thoup" instead of "Soup"? This is often a sign of a Tongue Thrust. If the tongue pushes forward during swallowing, it will likely push forward during speech. We treat the swallow and the speech simultaneously for a permanent fix.
2. The Lateral Lisp ("Slushy" Sounds)
Does your child sound like Sid the Sloth? This happens when air escapes out the sides of the mouth because the tongue isn't sealing against the molars. This is a motor issue that requires strengthening the sides of the tongue.
3. The Tricky "R" Sound
The "R" is the most complex sound in English because it requires the tongue to float and tense without touching anything. We use tactile cues and specific motor exercises to teach the tongue exactly where to go.
4. Phonological Processes
If your child deletes sounds (saying "at" for "cat") or swaps sounds (saying "tookie" for "cookie") past the appropriate age, we map out the patterns to help their brain organize speech sounds correctly.

How We Build Clearer Communication
-
Comprehensive Evaluation: We assess articulation, oral structure (checking for ties), and muscle function.
-
Motor-Based Planning: We create a plan that strengthens the specific muscles needed for the target sounds.
-
Home Program: You get specific, manageable exercises to do at home—because speech habits change with daily reinforcement, not just weekly visits.
-
Collaboration: We are happy to coordinate with your child's school therapist to ensure we are all on the same team.
